Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas (SP), implemented a new Wi-Fi 6 system in the Passenger Terminal to enable many more devices to be connected at the same time, without reducing speed or causing network congestion. Furthermore, several points of low signal coverage within the terminal have been improved. The project was led by Concessionária Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos in partnership with 3Corp Technology, a company that integrates the manufacturer of the Huawei AirEngine solution.
The new technology, called Wi-Fi 6, was installed in July this year and offers a more stable and faster connection to passengers, especially on latest generation IOS and Android devices, capable of reaching speeds of up to 1Gb per second. At least 35 thousand people embark or disembark daily through Viracopos. The passenger terminal has 178 thousand m² of built area.
“Wi-Fi 6 is fundamental to transforming the way we offer the service at Viracopos International Airport, allowing passengers, employees and assignees a better experience and higher quality in the use of wireless technology”, explains Guilherme Dalto, Systems Manager and Viracopos IT.

High-capacity wireless connection is essential for expanding and improving the quality of airport services, businesses and customers who use access via mobile devices. Currently, there is much more data being transmitted on different devices due to games and high-resolution files being downloaded and uploaded at the same time, creating network congestion. However, new cutting-edge technology enables better performance and availability, providing a productive experience for passengers.
The new wireless connection standard ensures a more efficient way to handle this growing and diverse amount of different types of traffic. Wi-Fi 6 combines efficiency, flexibility, security and stability for transmissions, connections and information for passengers at the International Airport. Furthermore, it prepares a path for innovation and transformation in the provision of airport services through the use of a huge range of IoT devices and their enhancement through the association and use of Artificial Intelligence, which is within the objectives of the Airport Concessionaire.
